Last year the weather turned so cold that the garden stopped growing. By August we had a bunch of zuccini but not much else. In December the three small pumpkins finally gave up and rotted, half green and half wanna-be orange. Check out the carrots:
Yep, that's one of the BIG carrots. Sighhhh....I got so discouraged I stopped blogging, stopped weeding, and just glared at the dark, cloudy sky as it rained, rained, rained.
BUT...IT'S A NEW YEAR!
I've already started some pepper seeds going under the BrightLight. Organic red and greens, plus some orange belles (couldn't get organic orange ones). It's been 10 days and no sign of a sprout and I am getting worried. Last year only one of these seeds sprouted (out of 24)-I had thought it was because of the cool weather. Hopefully it isn't the seeds, these organic things are expensive.
The garden is still in a state of ugliness. I never got around to "putting it to sleep" so it's basically a mud pit right now. Once the ground firms up I hope to get another 3 yards of composted steer manure to mix in and help break up the clay some more. I'd love to get a real fence up instead of that ugly road construction neon orange stuff but we'll see. Definitely will get the log borders settled in and hopefully the grapes planted this year so we can start getting table grapes. And there is still the chicken coop/run to build and chicks to get.
It's only February and we are busy! Here's to hoping for a more productive year. *fingers crossed*
